Orientation Guide for KU Office of First Year Experience

Art direction  /  Layout

The KU Office of First-year Experience approached us with the desire to update their Orientation Guide, a book handed out to new students during Orientation visits. The goal was to create something students would actually be able to absorb and hopefully hang on to for future reference. To achieve this, we wanted to make the guide much more visual and user-friendly than previous years.

In discussing what the client wanted from the guide, it became obvious to us that they really needed two books, a guide for orientation day, and a guide for campus life after orientation day. We solved this problem by taking advantage of the spiral binding and inserting a second set of covers in the middle of the book. When orientation is complete, the book can be folded inside out and used as a student’s Field Guide for Your First Year.

Supplemental Materials

A pocket inside the front cover was created to hold supplemental pieces for transfer students, military veterans, and parents along with a campus map and schedule for Orientation Day.
